"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."

- Carl Rogers

Initial Consultation

The initial appointment focuses on understanding your specific needs and situation. During this 90-minute meeting, we will discuss the problems you or your child are facing, potential causes, existing support systems, and your strengths. This thorough assessment helps us identify goals and recommend the next steps.

Individual Psychotherapy

Individual therapy sessions provide our clients with a safe, open, and welcoming space where they can work through unique challenges, following evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). We value the involvement of caregivers in the therapeutic process, maintaining client confidentiality while fostering a collaborative relationship for lasting change.

Our therapy process includes three phases:

  1. Assess-to-treat Phase: Over two to three sessions, we identify factors affecting well-being, clarify diagnoses if necessary, and set therapy goals.

  2. Intervention Phase: Therapy sessions are held every one or two weeks, with regular progress reviews to adjust methods and goals.

  3. Ending and Post-Therapy Phase: This phase focuses on consolidating therapeutic changes, often involving gradually increasing the intervals between sessions.

Parent Consultation Sessions

MindSteps offers parent consultation sessions rooted in Emotion-Focused Family Therapy, Attachment Theory, and Positive Parenting Strategies. Our experienced clinicians help caregivers understand and address their youth's emotional needs and behaviors. Held bi-weekly over 6-10 sessions, these consultations provide ongoing support, particularly beneficial for parents of highly sensitive youth facing sensory issues, emotional outbursts, oppositional behavior, or family distancing. The sessions aim to equip caregivers with effective strategies, strengthen the parent-child bond, boost parenting confidence, and improve the youth's emotional intelligence and regulation.

Group Therapy

MindSteps offers engaging online group sessions for teens and adults, including the PEERS Program for Teens, a social skills program aimed at enhancing interpersonal skills and fostering friendships. Additionally, there's a Caregiver Consultation Group for parents to gain insights and strategies while connecting with others, and Mindfulness drop-in sessions for adults to cultivate awareness and reduce reactivity in everyday life.

If you are interested in joining a future group, please let us know. We are compiling a list of individuals who have expressed interest, and once we have enough participants, we will schedule the group sessions.

Diagnostic Assessments

Diagnostic assessments evaluate how a person is feeling and functioning in their everyday lives to determine if they meet criteria for specific clinical conditions, such as anxiety disorders, mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, and trauma-related disorders.

Diagnostic assessments include interviews, questionnaires, and a letter summarizing findings (if desired).

Please note that for the diagnosis of some neurodevelopmental disorders such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), a comprehensive psychological assessment might be required.

Comprehensive Psychological Assessments

Comprehensive psychological assessments, also known as psycho-educational assessments, are complete assessments of an individual's cognitive, academic, developmental, and mental health functioning. This type of assessment is needed for the assessment of learning disabilities and intellectual developmental disorder and is often recommended for the assessment of other neuro-developmental disorders such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). These assessments include interviews, questionnaires, a review of available documentation, testing, and a summary report with recommendations.
